Outsourcing My Brain

I need to outsource my brain when seasons change (like from school year to summer or back)! I realized for myself, exhaustion comes when I have to think about every single thing that I need to do separately. During these transitions, I get overwhelmed and end up turning to my phone and scrolling, because it takes too much energy to figure out what to do next.

4 years ago, Abbey Wedgeworth was talking about how she moves to the next part of her day by creating a repeatable chore chart for herself. I printed a copy off every week for a while, but that started getting tiring, so I slid mine in a plastic page that I snap into my favorite planner. Over the last few years I’ve had a lot of different versions. I have adapted it to suit our family’s needs for this sumer. (Get her printable version here.)

This is how I’ve personalized mine:

But maybe your problem starts before the outsourcing part. Maybe you’re not even sure what you need to get done, or where to start. I tend to do this personal audit at the beginning of the year, school year, and now think I’m going to work through it for summer to decide what matters most to me at this time.

These pages walk you through:

  • What worked for you before?
  • What hasn’t been working?
  • Which goals did you meet?
  • What is ending?
  • Where do you feel stuck?

From there, I can figure out how to help my kids get good habits that build routines into their day, so you don’t look around and realize you’re doing everything yourself!
