Christmas Discipleship Ideas
Here are some of our favorite Christmas discipleship ideas! Christmas and Easter are automatic “ins” for discipleship in families. They are times of celebration with historic Christian roots. Exploring that is a lot of fun, both for parents and kids. Learning about Advent traditions has really helped me be intentional!
Growing up my parents read us the Christmas story before we opened presents every Christmas, but learning about Advent traditions has allowed me to thread it all through the month of December rather than doing the totality of discipleship on Christmas morning.
Habits That Stick
In our family, the habits that stick are the ones the kids are prompting. So I habit-stacked our Christmas readings with a cheap chocolate Advent calendar from Trader Joe’s. They absolutely want to eat their chocolate every day, so it is a good reminder to read a little of the Christmas story each evening. At the end they yell…
God’s word is sweet!!!!!
and run for the chocolate! It’s one of the traditions that has become dear to us and not too late to start.

Our Favorite Christmas Books
Christmas is also a time we use to spend more time together, not just studying the Bible, but connecting and enjoying one another. Culturally it’s easy to become more rushed and busy during this season, but if at all possible I’d recommend cutting things out and spending time loving one another!
